1. Which two readings did you complete from the reading list provided (or from your own selections)?
Elizabeth Gaskell "North and South" and Jane Austen "Pride and Prejudice"2. Based on these readings, compare (three examples) and contrast (three examples) the works you read with themes from the ppt presentations given in class on Victorian culture and literature.
- In "North and South" we can find a Family that moved into the north of England an area that does not have an industrialize way of life.
- The love stories are still valid nowadays.
- We can find convenience marriages.- The love stories are still valid nowadays.
- If a family had 5 daughters the only goal was to get married all of them, and that's it!
3. Do you feel that the works you read are very good or excellent representation of Victorian literature? Why/Why not?
"North and South" is an excellent representation of the victorian literature, because her author is known as a precise observant of the habits of those days, it is an admirable view of the Victorian period.
"Pride and Prejudice" even though is a pre-victorian novel in my opinion is a very good representation because is funny how people seems not working at all. They always go from a house to another, go to some party and getting connected with some people.

4. Would you recommend the readings to family or friends? Why/Why not?
