1. Which 2 readings did you complete from the reading list provided (or from your own selection)?
I have chosen 2 works of Graham Greene;
"Our man in Havana" of 1958 and "The Tenth Man" of 1985
2. Based on these readings, compare (3 examples) and contrast (3 examples) the works you read with the themes from the ppt presentations in class on Modernist Culture and Literature.
I have chosen 2 works of Mr. Greene because both of the readings have political issues, although one is sad.
-The readings had comments and situations against religious, and socials points of view.
-Most of the issues were relatives and there were no absolute truth.
-Political aspects are present in the readings either as a drama or comedy.
-We can can inside a man's soul and check how far he can go for money.
3. Do you feel the works you read are very good or excellent representations of the Modernist Literature? Why/Why not?
I think that the readings are an excellent representation of the modernist literature because the books talk about politics and religion among other things. We can read about what was happening in the time after the second world war and the cuba of Batista. We can be aware about what a man is capable for filthy money... give away your life to give your family a better life or just to pay your daughter's education.
4. Would you recommend the readings to friends or family? Why/Why not?
Absolutely "our man in Havana" is a funny story, how a vacuum cleaner salesman end up as a spy for the britain's secret intelligence service?!?!? all 'cause of his daughter, and in "The tenth man" we can delight with how far (or brave) a man can go to insure the ecomomical future of his family, kind of sad but interesting.
